Asheville Bravo Concerts takes very seriously our obligation to educate as well as to entertain our community. In order to solidify our education and community outreach efforts, Asheville Bravo Concerts has developed Music Education Partnership Program (MEPP), which has three components:
Bravo instituted the MEPP after two successful pilot programs in the 90's, starting with the distribution of more than 700 free tickets to the Boys Choir of Harlem (funded in part by the Janirve Foundation) in 1998. Bravo soon incorporated nine school programs, a master class and a choir workshop featuring the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and storyteller Junebug (funded in part by the Beattie Foundation and a Grassroots Program Grant of the NC Arts Council) in 1999.
Over the past decade, Bravo has distributed in excess of 7,000 MEPP tickets to include N. Buncombe Middle School, UNCA, WCU, Mars Hill College , AC Reynolds High School, the Emma Resource Center , Warren Wilson College , Asheville High School , the Piano Teacher's Forum, Delta House, Estes Elementary, The Family Self Sufficiency Center, Own High, and the Presbyterian Children's Home. We plan this year to include more communities and schools in the WNC area. In addition, free tickets were also distributed to the clients/residents of the social service/low income organizations: the Battery Park Apartments, the Ukrainian Community Center , LINK, United Methodist Active Residency and Cooperiis, and the Vanderbilt Apartments.
All MEPP activities are supported by contributions from corporations, foundations and individuals and planned with the cooperation of schools and community organizations.
